At 2009 NaviNet Healthcare Forum, Industry Leaders To Discuss How Health Information Exchange Helps Reduce Healthcare Costs and Improves Quality of Care

Cambridge, MA|September 24, 2009

Presentations from Milliman, Inc. and Leading Industry Analyst Firm Highlight Technologies to Address Healthcare Challenges

NaviNet (formerly NaviMedix), America’s largest real-time healthcare communications network, welcomes healthcare visionaries, leading national, regional and Blues health plans and industry analysts to Boston for the 2009 NaviNet Healthcare Forum, to be held September 15 at Marriott Copley Place. The Forum will bring together stakeholders, ideas and technologies to start a conversation about how the industry can best collaborate to create better healthcare for America. The NaviNet Healthcare Forum, an immersive event that fosters candid conversations, creative thinking and idea sharing, will feature presentations by John Phelan, Ph.D., a senior industry analyst in the Management and Technology Practice from Milliman, Inc., and Maureen O’Neil, principle research analyst, Insurance Industry Advisory Services, Gartner, Inc. Sessions will focus on health information exchange and the optimal use of technologies to reduce healthcare costs and improve quality of care.

The Forum agenda will highlight the issues of health information exchange and what drives the technology that leads to overall improvements in healthcare delivery. Last month, NaviNet launched the NaviNet Health Information Exchange (HIE), a solution that enables physicians, clinicians, hospitals, ancillary care providers, health plans, state governments and existing HIEs to exchange information in real-time within NaviNet’s established, secure and trusted national network to achieve “meaningful use.”

NaviNet facilitates national health information exchange via a network of more than 770,000 providers, leading payers and other healthcare organizations across the country. For more than a decade, NaviNet has helped health plans solve real business problems with a unique combination of innovative technology, comprehensive knowledge of provider-payer work flows, years of experience in healthcare communications and access to the largest electronically enabled provider network in the country. The 2009 NaviNet Healthcare Forum will feature special presentations designed to help health plans utilize technology to reduce costs, improve provider satisfaction and improve care delivery:

  • Provider Portal Cost Savings: Milliman, Inc., is one of the premier global consulting and actuarial firms with a specialty in healthcare, insurance and benefits. John Phelan, Ph.D., will provide perspective on the potential for operational cost savings payers may achieve from their provider electronic transaction initiatives.

  • Strategic Provider Network Management and Healthcare Reform: Gartner’s Maureen O’Neil will discuss a recent Industry Research note on provider network management, offering health plans recommendations on ways to prepare for healthcare reform by optimizing payer-provider communications.
